Thank You for Your Service

A veteran’s perspective, distilled into design.

This body of work was created for my senior show at Murray State University as both a reflection and a release. As a disabled veteran, I carried my service with me into the studio—layering emotion, memory, and symbolism across mediums. These three pieces explore the complexities of military experience, the weight of recognition, and the reality that the transition home often demands more strength than the battlefield ever did.

Each piece tells part of the story. This isn't just art—it’s an offering.
To those who served, to those who never came back, and to the ones still navigating what it means to be home.

Thoughts of War (Video Installation)

A fragmented loop of internal dialogue, this video mirrors the mental aftershocks of combat. Disjointed visuals and audio mimic the intrusive thoughts and emotional dissonance that follow veterans long after the uniform is folded away. It’s not meant to make sense—it’s meant to make you feel what can’t always be explained.

DD214 (Print/Design)

Named after the official discharge form every U.S. service member receives, this piece highlights the tension between paperwork and lived experience. The DD214 is often seen as the finish line—proof you made it out. But in reality, it’s just the beginning of a new kind of endurance. The piece challenges viewers to think beyond the document, and into the life that continues after.

Ribbon Spatter

Tradition meets fragmentation. “Ribbon Spatter” deconstructs the polished symbolism of military ribbons, reimagining them through a more personal, visceral lens. Using laser-cut acrylic as a base and layered with custom-designed vinyl patterns, this piece splinters the clean, ceremonial lines into something more chaotic—more human. It’s both tribute and critique: a salute to the sacrifice, and a reminder of the mess we often hide behind tradition.
